'Gunpowder, Treason and Plot!'
Lewes hosts the UK's largest and most famous Bonfire Night celebrations. The event marks Guy Fawkes Night (the date when the Gunpowder Plot was uncovered in 1605) and also commemorates the memory of the seventeen Protestant martyrs from Lewes, burned at the stake for their faith during the Marian Persecutions.
